
The study of diseases and treatments related to lumps or tumors is called oncology. An
oncologist is one who specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors. Students who
aspire to become an oncologist must focus on mathematics, physics, chemistry and life
sciences. One should be eligible to study in an accredited medical college. The students have to undergo intense study for the first two years in medical science and additional work at the
hospitals. Third and fourth year is also similar with more study on the practical approach. Other specialties include paediatric oncology, gynecological oncology and breast oncology.
After completion of the course in four years the oncologist has to appear for examinations in order to get certified. An oncologist is certified in his particular field like medical oncologist or paediatric oncologist. The oncologist has to register for a medical license in order to work in hospitals or organizations. The salary of an oncologist can vary between $200,000 and $300,000 for a year. Apart from salary, an oncologist enjoys other benefits like fringe benefit, increment, and vacations. An oncologist becomes more popular and experienced as he attends many patients.
